This is one in a series of writings telling of the factors God worked together as told us by Paul in Romans 8: 18-28 building the story of my life.
When the children (older than pictured) wanted a song of their own, I wrote "If" for them. It is shown here with each one's part.
Permission granted for anyone to make up their own tune and sing or to recite;
providing you do not claim authorship and give any resulting glory to God.

If I were a builder, I'd build a chapel grand
and folks would come to see it from all across the land.
If I were a seamstress, I'd sew some curtains fine
and hang them to the windows to make His house divine.
but since I am no builder and since I am no seamstress
We'll do the best we can and we will serve the Master according to His plan.

If I owned a mountain, I'd climb up to the top
and there I'd place an altar where all could worship God.
If I were a teacher, with knowledge to impart
I'd teach all about Jesus and touch each students' heart.
but since I own no mountain and since I am no teacher
We'll do the best we can and we will serve the Master according to His plan.

If I were a preacher, I'd give a sermon sweet
So everyone who heard it would fall upon their knees.
and if they wouldn't listen, then I would sing and shout
till everyone would know what salvation's all about.
But since he is no preacher we'll do the best we can
and we will serve the master according to His plan.

There is a job for everyone, so won't you lend a hand?
For though you may not know it, you fit into His plan.
Friend, if you'll serve the Master and do the best you can,
You'll find that you are blessed a
(they each tried to be the one who could hold this note the longest)ccording to His plan.
