Today I contemplated dreams of long ago
that brought my ancestors from far and distant shore.
Although we can imagine, without valid record
The answer is an illusion we may never really know.
Why did they each one journey half way across this land
And settle here in Kansas? I fail to understand.
The more I think about it, there must have been a plan
And if that is so, it's clear to me it came from Your own hand.
And so the dream that stirred each heart to action way back then
Brought their children's children together in the end
And yet that end was a beginning of generations yet to come
And who could see it all ahead? I can only think of One.

I stood today upon the land where my mom was born,
A farm her grandpa homesteaded before there was a town.
And I saw the hotel my dad's family built to own;
When they came upon the scene Daddy was full grown.
Such a stirring experience to open up the hasp
To all the generations that have already passed.
As I looked at my grandchild, standing by my side,
It seemed the hopes of all their dreams rested in her eyes.
So I just want to thank You, Lord, for generations gone
For speaking to their hearts as only You know how
And for the calm assurance the past, future and present
We are all....
When adversity comes our way, we shall know we win
Because our faith is rooted in the Son of man.
And if a dream should stir us, right from the very start
There will not be any doubt who placed it in our heart.
As we dwell upon this land, may we glorify Your name
While we live the dream for which our ancestors came.
Your joy our sure portion from which we each draw strength
As we journey down the path of this life's full length.
Dreams of Long ago.
