Dangerous Journey
=================
I was returning to Atlanta on a flight with my son.
We got on the shuttle that transports you the long distance from
the gates to the main terminal.
I had a MountainWings Moment on the shuttle.
You have to hold vertical handrails as the shuttle lurches
forward then jerks to a stop. I saw people swaying and
staggering to keep their balance on the rollercoaster-like
shuttle.
I saw a person nearly fall.
I have seen people fall.
I then realized that more people are probably injured on the
shuttle than on planes.
Life is often like that.
We fear the plane ride but not the shuttle.
The two leading killers in America:
Cigarettes and Obesity.
We fear neither.
Planes, terrorists, guns, lightening, etc. are big exotic scary
things but they are not very likely to ever harm most.
Most will get hurt on the shuttle; shuttling through day-to-day
living, mundanely going back and forth, and getting small
injuries that build each day because we fail to hold on securely
to the right thing.
As I listened to the computerized voice mechanically intone the
warning, the words sounded familiar.
The warning sounded just like the warning Noah gave and suddenly
the journey took on a new meaning. So many fail to make the
shuttle and miss getting to the destination.
The mechanical Darth Vader computerized voice repeated,
“Once closed, the doors will NOT reopen.”
