Stephen wanted nothing more than to serve his Lord and King.
He gave his heart; he gave his will he gave his everything.
Chosen to wait at tables of those who were distressed,
People who were served by him were well and truly blessed.
Filled with power and wisdom through the Holy Spirit too,
Many signs and miracles among people did he do.

The enemies of Jesus well they could stand no more,
They stirred up all the elders and teachers of the law.
He was accused of blasphemy, but Stephen full of grace,
Stood before them, with the look of an angel on his face.
He told of all the prophets long ago who tried to tell
Of the coming of the Saviour, who on the earth would dwell.

The one betrayed and murdered though
He freed them from the law.
Those listening grew furious, but Stephen looked and saw,
“God” in all His glory, “Jesus” at His right hand,
Full of the Holy Spirit, Stephen took his stand.
They rushed at him and dragged him outside the city wall,
As they began to stone him, on Jesus did he call, “Lord”
Hold not this sin against them, my spirit with you keep.
These were the words he uttered and then he fell asleep.
