Today's song will speak of people, ideas, or maybe results of events. Event's in today's music are more the backdrop for the thought, etc. that the writer wants you to hear. In Bible times songs were written about events. People, their actions or reactions were only flavor to the event. Although the Lord is an exception to this rule we find an event was the trigger for praise and took prominence. Very few people could read and it was more interesting to hear a story sung than read.
