We often take for granted,
All the treasures life has brought.
We place our values more upon,
The things that can be bought
The gifts that we enjoy today,
May not be here tomorrow,
Or in their place, we may endure,
Much suffering and sorrow.
The love of those, whose lives we share,
And friends along the way,
The smile a stranger gives to you,
To brighten up your day.
A child’s touch, a playful pup,
Or long walks in the park,
A thunderstorm, a mountain scene,
A campfire after dark,
A sunrise in the morning, or,
A sunset in the west,
The sound of joyous laughter,
Or a babe on mother’s breast.
No,... These things will not pay the bills,
Nor are they half the whole,
But they can teach a heart to sing,
And feed a hungry soul
