When the king told the priest he wondered what God would do,
The priest sought out this woman. What does that say to you?
All we know of her is one circumstance when God used her to
turn the hearts of her people back to Himself. What a testament!
Both the priests (Chronicles) and the scribes (Kings) recorded
the impact this simple wife of a tailor had on her nation.
Because everybody knew she spent time with God,
her words were trusted as truth. She had built a reputation.
Some background:
Josiah was 8 years old when he became king. He did what was right in the sight of the Lord. He instituted a restoration of the temple. It was during this restoration that workmen found the Holy Writings of their day, which had been so long lost that Josiah was not aware of the contents. It was read to him and that is where your references begin.
Read the references above and write what you find out about the following persons:
the king (Josiah)
the priest (Hilkiah)
the secretary (Shaphan)
the king's attendant (Asaiah)
the tailor (Shallum)
the prophetess (Huldah)
We do not hear of Huldah before or after these few verses. It is obvious that she was well known in her town, in her day. As we look into this woman of God notice that her reputation precedes this account. We can be sure therefore that this is not the only time God spoke through her. If she had been among the many unnamed
her impact would have been the same. The reason I want you to grasp this is a very simple one:
It is not important how history remembers us, but rather how His story is seen in us. The matter that motivates us needs to be "How can I bless a soul today?" and to be on intimate terms with our Lord.
