Are you a simple woman with no family of your own?
If any man ever loved you, he never made it known?
Or perhaps you have made the choice to live life "on your own"?

And now your getting "up in years" wondering what will be my legacy?
Is there anyone, when I am gone, will often think of me?
What will the story told of the woman I was be?

The deeds of kindness you have sewn into another heart,
The joy you have given will also have its part.
So think on these as the course of life you chart.

What's that you find within your hand?
What talent were you given? To sew into another's life
what e'r you have to give, be it great or small
is the thing that has proven to be what outlives us all.

Dorcas Acts 9: 36-43

Dorcas is a Greek name, in Hebrew interpreted Tabitha. Some translations say Tabitha while others say Dorcas, thus further shrouding this beloved woman in mystery. Since hers is the first Greek name of a female recorded in the New Testament it is very likely she was a Greek who had been accepted as their own by the Hebrews which would explain the dual names referring to the same woman, but that has no basis in fact. What we do not know about this woman far outweighs what we do know. Although our introduction speaks of a woman who has lived a solitary life either by choice or chance the Scripture gives us no clue as to the status of this woman. That was not important enough to record. Right here let us each take note of what was important, regardless of her (or your) status.

9:36 she was a disciple ment: she was doing and the 9:37 she became sick and died, at this point can you see where she was different from any run of the mill Christian? her body was washed and laid in an upper room.

9:38 Here is where our story takes a different turn.

9:40 What do you suppose moved Peter to take these actions?
Notice: Once the confusion was removed from the room his 1st first order of business was prayer.
Then he And she

9:41 He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he

9:42 Word spread all over this town and many believed in the Lord. Thus indicating that she was well known, her death was a commonly known fact and her ressurrection accepted as an act of God.

When I read this account I wonder what went through Dorcas mind when she saw Peter. We cannot know that but we read this: A great reward was given her for it was a direct result of her being brought back from being present with the Lord that many people believed on the Lord. We leave her there and do not know how long she lived or how many more good deeds she did so again we can determine that is not important.

What conclusions come to your mind about your life here and now, due to Dorcas?
