Romans 8:28 & 31
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
All Things!
These Things!
When considering this passage of scripture there are two questions to ask of ourselves:
1] Do I love God? Consider 1John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?(KJV) Here we are given a plumbline to measure our own love for God.

2] Am I "called" according to His purpose?  Consider 2Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.(NIV) Here God's purpose for each one of us is clearly stated.

In the opening scripture passage I have underlined two "things" all things and these things. First I shall address all things ask you to address these things. Like this:
All is a wide range that can be so vast that we lose sight of the fact that each item fits the bill. That is where these things come in. These things are the identifiable things that came up today and will come up tomorrow. Even the dark cloud of your past is a thing and fits into the "these things" category. Romans 8:31 reads "what shall we say to these things".

In Genesis, chapter 50, Joseph revealed to his brothers how God worked a really dumb choice of their past that was haunting them into the salvation of their family. When the brothers repented of their sin they were free to enjoy the harvest of God's work.
If there is something from your past that haunts you today;
Luke 22:31-32 Jesus tells Simon Peter that He's already interceded for him before he even messes up and that He knows he will "turn back"(NIV) or "convert"(KJV). He tells him it is after he has messed up and been converted that he can move on to  "strengthen the brethren". Are you in Satan's sifter today? Do you find yourself denying Christ in your lifestyle, words, heart?
Hebrews 10:24-25 Exhorts us to be in fellowship with those of like faith and in so doing encourage one another to good works. 1John 1:7 Clearly states that if we walk in the light as He is in the light we have fellowship one with the other. Are you out of fellowship with other saints today?
And we are ready to look at your side of the lesson.
Take the things you have written one at a time and ask the Lord to open your eyes to see how this has worked good in your life, is working good in your life, or shall work good in your life. For those items where you may have wronged another ask Him to work your sin to their good and ask forgiveness, make restitution where appropriate, forgive yourself, and put the past behind you.

Now come the work of faith in your life. In those areas where you can se no good trust God to be able to do His job. Speak to these things "If God be for me you cannot stand against me."
The last part of chapter 8(...37-39) reads: in all these things we are more than conquers through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, thatnothingshall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

** .......nothing.......... includes these things you have confessed in writing on your side of this lesson**
