~ ~ Abigail ~ ~

1Samuel 25:2-42

If you are a home maker or stay at home mom who is married to the personification of selfish egotist. You may well be WONDERing how God could ever use a WOMAN like you. Well Abigail was in that position when God used her to soften a heart hardened by her husband and prevent great sorrow from coming upon her household. God reasoned with a righteous man through her when her husband was unreasonable.
It was party time in Maon.
Nabal was sheering his sheep and rejoicing in his prosperity.

God often uses people or situations we know nothing about to prosper us materially, physically, or spiritually. This time Nabal was blessed by a band of men he had no respect for. Oops 4 him!

25:2 Make this discription as brief as you can in your own words.

25:3 What 3 words discribe Abigail?
What 3 words describe Nabal?

25:4 This verse places David in the and Nabel in the .

25:5 David sent young up to greet in name.

25:6 How would you discribe the greeting David sent to Nabal?

25:6-8 What reason did David send to justify his request?
Do you think David's request was reasonable? Why?

25:9 Did David's men follow his instructions?

25:10 We see here Nabal knew at least 2 things about David:
1
2

25:11 Why is this statement unreasonable? (see verse 8)

25:12 How did Davids men respond?

25:13 How did David react?

Now we have the background information to understand the setting.
This is the setting where we meet Abigail.

We have established in verse 10 that David's reputation preceeded him. Her husband has just ticked off the meanest warrior in the nation who has the backing of several loyal men. Do you see a need for negotiations? Explain:
Do you see any chance that a lowly woman will a difference?
Do you see any danger to a woman who would step into this situation and try?

25:14-17 Who told Abigail what was going on
Why do you think they told Abigail?
What was this persons opinion of Nabal?
What was this persons opinion of David?

25:18 How long did it take Abigail to think of a plan?
What did she take with her?

25:19 Whose servants did she order? What did she tell them to do?
What did she omit doing?

25:20 What was her mode of transportation?
Where did she meet David and his men?

25:21-22 What was David's mind set?

25:23-24 How did Abigail present herself to David?

25:25 How did she speak of her husband?
How did she speak of David?

25:26 With what did she credit the Lord?

25:27 What did she ask of David?

25:28-29 Here she asks David to forgive her and speaks of her faith in the righteousnes of God and a prophecy:

25:30-31 She encourages David in his righteousness.

At this point she has placed herself totally in Davids hands and at his mercy. She has asked him to place all the blame upon her even though she did not meet the men David sent and she has boldly allowed the Lord to speak through her. Now she can only wait to see what David will do and hear what he will say. This is one of those moments when eternity lingers....

25:32-34 Who did David speak to first? What did David say?

25:35 Then Who did he speak to? Did he accept her peace offering?
What did he tell her to do? Why?

25:36-37 Why did Abigail not speak to Nabal when she got home?
When did she tell him what had happened?
Why? What happened to Nabal when he heard?

25:38 Ten days later what 2 things happened?

25:39 How did David react when he heard what happened to Nabal? and then he

25:40 Why did David send his servants to Abigail?

25:41-42 What was her responce?
